Light in Painting December 2023
This book is based on the Wikipedia page; ‘Light in Painting’ and the history behind it. This project was a tool for me to understand pairing the right typefaces, type setting, contemporary book layouts, and the book binding process. The book has a total of approximately 120 pages printed front and back.

Two typefaces were used throughout the this book: Graphik (sans-serif) and Park Lane (serif). A serif is paired with
a sans-serif to reference the historical content that is being displayed in
a book during the modern time.

The base grid system used to set the majority of the type is broken in most of the page layouts to make it contemporary while alternating between both typefaces.

To represent the visible light spectrum, the colours of the spectrum were printed on transparent sheets and inserted into the binding evenly across the book. It also creates an interesting interaction between the colour and the image shown behind the page.

Within the art movement chapters, there are mini-booklets inserted in between full bled images to allow the reader to read about the techniques and artists of the time whilst looking at the painting in detail.

This allows the reader to have an immersive experience about the historic art movements without flipping between pages constantly.

The process:
These were some of the discarded/improvised options that were made during the ideation stages in addition to the stages of the printing process.
