PhotobookMay 2023
The intent of this project was to make a photobook (with a narrative) driven by different signs and symbols that we spotted across a city, Bangalore.
The approach I had to making this photobook was to segregate them by colour and make multiple photo collages using the photos my family and I took to set the background and context of each symbol. Some of the pages from the photobook is shown below. It was later printed on an A5 size book.
The process:
I had taken pictures of almost a 100 signs and symbols that I saw across the city. To narrow down, we initially got them printed in a smaller scale so we could see them all at once and together. Later, based on the design language and the similarities between the signs, the pool was narrowed down until I had a few that looked cohesive when seen together. Afterward, the signs and symbols were colour corrected and the black and white background images were edited (contrast, highlights, curves, etc) and collaged using Adobe Photoshop. Multiple test prints were taken as the vibrancy/contrast of the images were different from how they appeared on the screen.
